This Privacy Policy explains how RemovalCompanies.Reviews collects, uses, and protects personal data. We are committed to handling data responsibly and in accordance with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
RemovalCompanies.Reviews is operated by MicroBOS Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 17406936), registered office 66 Paul Street, London EC2A 4NA. MicroBOS Ltd is registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office and is the data controller for personal data processed through this platform.
1. What Data We Collect and From Where
Data compiled from public sources
Company listings on this platform may include business information compiled from publicly available sources including the Google Places API. This may include business name, address, phone number, website, and Google rating. This data is used solely for the purpose of creating a business directory.
Data submitted by business owners
When a company claims their listing or registers a portal account, we collect:
- Business name and trading name
- Contact name
- Email address and phone number
- Business address and service area
- Insurance and accreditation documents submitted for verification
Data submitted by customers
When a customer submits a quote request, we collect:
- Name, email address, and phone number
- Move details including addresses, property types, and preferred dates
- Preferred contact method
- Any additional information provided in the enquiry form
People a customer shares a move with
A customer can share their move with up to 10 people. To do this, the customer gives us each person’s name and email address. We use those details to email that person about the move and to make them an account, so they can sign in and see the details the customer chose to share. Before they see anything, the person agrees to our Terms of Service and this Privacy Policy. We do not use their details for marketing. A customer should only share a move with someone who is happy for the customer to give us their details.
Technical data
We collect standard technical data including IP addresses, browser type, and pages visited via cookies and analytics tools. See Section 7 for more information on cookies.
Answers given to tools in our guides
Some of our guides carry a tool that describes a move from answers about the job: the type of home, the number of bedrooms, how heavily furnished it is, the floor, whether there is a lift, where a van can park, whether the packing is done, whether the contents are heavy, and how far the move is. We count those answers so that we can publish how difficult house moves in the UK actually are, and so that our own price guidance reflects real jobs.
We record the answers on their own. No name, email address, phone number, postcode or address is attached to them, and nothing links one set of answers to another or to the person who gave them. The tool places no cookie and stores nothing on your device. Because these answers do not identify anyone, they are not personal data under UK GDPR, and we hold them as counts rather than as records about a person. If you go on to request quotes, the details you enter in the quote form are customer enquiry data, which is described above.
2. How We Use Your Data
We use the data we collect to:
- Display business listings in our directory
- Route customer quote requests to eligible removal companies
- Allow business owners to manage their portal accounts
- Send transactional emails related to account activity and enquiries
- Comply with our legal obligations under UK GDPR
- Improve the platform and monitor for misuse
We do not sell personal data to third parties. We do not use personal data for automated decision-making that produces legal effects.
Calling removal companies. We hold the business contact details of removal companies in the UK, taken from public sources such as their own websites, Google Business listings and Companies House, so that we can list them in our directory and invite them to manage their listing. We may telephone a company about its listing. Before we call a number we have not been given directly, we check it against the Telephone Preference Service and the Corporate Telephone Preference Service, and we do not call numbers registered on either. We keep a record of each call we make (the number, the date and time, and the outcome) so that we can honour requests not to be called again. If you tell us not to call, we will not. Our calls are not recorded. We are MicroBOS Ltd, registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office. To ask what we hold about your business, correct it, or have it removed, email admin@removalcompanies.reviews or use our data removal form.
3. Legal Basis for Processing
We process personal data on the following legal bases:
- Legitimate interests — for compiling directory listings from publicly available sources and operating the platform
- Contract — for processing data related to portal accounts and customer enquiries
- Legal obligation — for complying with UK GDPR and other applicable laws
- Consent — where you have explicitly opted in to marketing communications
4. How Long We Retain Your Data
| Data type | Retention period |
|---|---|
| Business listing data (public sources) | Until removal is requested or data becomes inaccurate |
| Portal account data | For the duration of the account plus 2 years |
| Customer enquiry data | 12 months after the move date, or 2 years after the customer’s last sign-in if that is later. For a booked move, the name and address are kept for at least 6 years after the move date, because the removal company’s business records need them. |
| Customer accounts, including people a move is shared with | Until 2 years after the last sign-in, provided there is no move in the last 12 months. The name, email address and the customer’s list of people they have shared with are then erased. |
| Compliance documents | For the duration of the account plus 2 years |
| Data removal requests | 3 years for audit purposes |
| Answers given to tools in our guides | Kept indefinitely as anonymous counts |
5. Your Rights
Under UK GDPR you have the following rights:
- Right of access — to request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- Right to rectification — to request correction of inaccurate data
- Right to erasure — to request deletion of your data where there is no legitimate reason for us to continue processing it
- Right to restrict processing — to request that we limit how we use your data
- Right to data portability — to receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format
- Right to object — to object to processing based on legitimate interests
To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at admin@removalcompanies.reviews or submit a request at portal.removalcompanies.reviews/data-removal.
We will respond to all requests within 30 days in accordance with UK GDPR Article 17.
6. Data Sharing
We do not sell personal data. We may share data with:
- Removal companies — customer enquiry details are shared with matched removal companies for the purpose of providing quotes
- People a customer shares their move with: the move details the customer chooses for each person
- Drivers and crew on a booked move: when you book a removal company through RemovalCompanies.reviews, that company can share your booking with the drivers and crew carrying out your move, including drivers who work for another removal company: your name, phone number, both addresses, the access details you gave and the date and time. The drivers and crew can see these details until 7 days after the move, and cannot change them.
- Service providers — we use trusted third-party services to operate the platform including hosting, email delivery, and analytics. These providers process data only on our instructions
- Legal authorities — where required by law or to protect the rights and safety of users
7. Cookies
We use cookies to operate the platform and understand how it is used. Cookies we use include:
- Strictly necessary cookies — required for the platform to function
- Analytics cookies — help us understand how visitors use the site. We use anonymised analytics data only
You can control cookies through your browser settings. Disabling cookies may affect the functionality of the platform.
Our guide tools place no cookies of their own. What they count is described under “Answers given to tools in our guides” in section 1.
8. Data Security
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal data against unauthorised access, loss, or disclosure. These include encrypted connections, access controls, and regular automated backups.
9. Google Places Data
Business data compiled from the Google Places API is used in accordance with Google’s Terms of Service for the purpose of building a directory. Companies can update or remove their listing at any time by claiming their profile or submitting a removal request at portal.removalcompanies.reviews/data-removal.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify registered users of material changes by email. The date at the top of this page will always reflect when the policy was last updated.
